The new Monster High film seems to be a priority for Mattel, considering it was announced earlier this year and has already seen progress towards production. Mattel has many films based on their properties on the air right now, including Hot Wheels with Warner Brothers, American Girl and Polly Pocket with MGM, and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots with Universal, all of which are to be live-action. Among their latest projects, is a live-action Barbie adaptation to be directed by Greta Gerwig ( Little Women) and staring Birds of Prey star, Margot Robbie. Mattel Film has produced series based on their brands Barbie, Masters of the Universe, American Girl, and Hot Wheels in the past and continue to make content for many others. Production for the movie will take place in Vancouver, Canada with the tentative title of Monster High. The feature length movie will be a musical and will incorporate the characters which originated the franchise: Clawdeen Wolf (Miia Harris) daughter of a werewolf, Frankie Stein (Ceci Balagot), daughter of Frankenstein’s monster Draculaura (Nayah Damasen), daughter of Dracula Lagoona Blue (Lina Lecompte), daughter of a sea monster Cleo de Nile (Jy Prishkulnik), daughter of the mummified Pharaoh Ramses de Nile and Goulia Yelps (Lilah Fitzgerald), daughter of a zombie and many others. Today, Nickelodeon issued a press release stating the Monster High live-action movie is moving forward with an expected release set for 2022. In the same year, a live-action Monster High film was announced with Universal, but the film never progressed beyond that. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since their introduction in 2010, the Monster High brand had a reboot in 2016, which included updated doll designs and animated content. The release of the web series later resulted in the franchise getting a number of animated, straight-to-video movies and television specials which were broadcasted on Nickelodeon. The franchise was launched with an animated web series released on YouTube in 2010.
